A Family Weekend Sanctuary

EXECUTIVE GOLFER – Spring 2021.

Looking for a weekend retreat the entire family would enjoy for years to come was a daunting task for Ryan and Alison Dalton of Austin, Texas. With three children ages 6 to 12, they were looking for a place they could spend weekends outdoors and unplugged. Great golf was at the top of Ryan’s wish list; Alison wanted the kids to feel free to roam a bit, giving her time to exhale.

“On our first visit to Boot Ranch, we knew we’d found something very special,” said Ryan, an energy company executive. “We fell in love with a home adjacent to the Putting Park, and it has been a perfect choice. Our kids wake up in the morning and are out the door—playing football or soccer with other kids on the nearby activity field or walking to one of the stocked ponds with fishing poles in hand. Best of all, it’s just 90 minutes from home, so we find ourselves here most weekends.

“Boot Ranch is so much more than golf. We love hiking the trails in the morning, playing tennis or pickleball, and of course the Lake Club. Our kids take the kayaks and paddleboards out to fish or just enjoy a little freedom. You’ll find me in a nearby beach chair with a good book. It feels like I’m on vacation every weekend.” — ALISON DALTON

“Anything golf and I’m in. Our home is next to the one-acre Putting Park, the largest green in Texas. Most evenings we join other families there for fun and some friendly competition.”— RYAN DALTON

Boot Ranch is a 2,000-acre private club community with stunning scenery and golf that rates near the top of most “best of” lists. Its location five miles north of the thriving small town of Fredericksburg puts it in the heart of Texas wine country, a half-day’s drive from Houston and Dallas, and an easy drive from both the Austin and San Antonio airports.

About half of Boot Ranch members live there full-time: some can work remotely and have opted out of city life in favor of a more laid-back, rural environment; others are fulfilling their Hill Country retirement dreams. The rest, like the Daltons, enjoy Boot Ranch on a part-time basis. Ryan says Boot Ranch is his version of Disneyland—a safe place for everything outdoors and, more importantly, a place their kids love as much as he and Alison do.
